The Balboa Fun Zone is one of Southern California's oldest and last great coastal amusement areas and a popular family-friendly attraction for visitors to Newport Beach. Visitors can enjoy rides on the waterfront Ferris Wheel, play games in the arcade where you win Treasures or tour the nautical museum while enjoying their favorite beach treats. This is also a popular place to rent bikes, harbor cruises, or take off for a day trip to nearby Catalina Island on the Catalina Flyer. The Balboa Fun Zone is located on Balboa Peninsula across from Balboa Pier off Balboa Blvd. A public parking lot is available across Balboa Blvd next to the pier. Or the Fun Zone can be reached by the Auto Ferry located on Balboa Island.

BALBOA PIER

BALBOA PIER

The Balboa Pier is one of two piers in Newport Beach, Balboa Pier was built in 1906 along with the nearby Balboa Pavilion in an effort to attract to people to Newport Beach. The Pacific Electric Railway extended a route to this location around the same time making it more accessible for people from Los Angeles.

Today the pier is a popular fishing spot. The fish caught from the pier consist mostly of mackerel and flounder. The pilings are home to a large population of starfish that feed on the large colonies of mussels growing there. Fishermen catching starfish by mistake are a relatively common sight.

In the 1980s, the first of Orange County's Ruby's Diner restaurants opened on the pier. The 1940s nostalgia-themed restaurant has since become an Orange County landmark.  A true Newport Beach Treasure
